4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which it was testified of him that he was righteous (upright, in right standing with God), and God testified by accepting his gifts. And though he died, yet through [this act of] faith he still speaks.
For God to be pleased, every man MUST come to Him His way! No man can come to God without blood. When we come to God through sacrifice of His Son – Jesus and nothing more, He is fully pleased!
In Genesis 4 Cain and Abel approached God in worship and the focus of the story is 'their offering.' and not what they did or didn't do! Hebrews 11:4 says Abel brought a more ACCEPTABLE sacrifice; this means that Abel came to God through a sacrifice that God accepted!
Genesis 4:4 says, “And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favour on ABEL AND his offering.” God looked favourably on Abel AND his OFFERING because the offering was very important! He was favoured because his offering or sacrifice pleased God!
Abel's sacrifice is a type of JESUS. The sacrifice was the firstborn of his flock - a lamb – and the Lamb is a type of Jesus whom Revelations 1:5 calls the firstborn among many begotten! Abel's sacrifice was a blood sacrifice. He came through blood and Hebrews 9:7 says the way to come to God is, “…not without blood …”
The life of faith is more of the offering that you come through than who you are or what you do!
Abel came through a blood sacrifice while Cain on the other hand brought an offering of the ground to God. Genesis 4:3 says, “In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of THE SOIL as an offering to the Lord.”
The ground was already cursed (Genesis 3:17) and its fruits cannot be brought to God as an offering. Cain brought his labours and self-effort to God but Galatians 3:10 says: “For all who RELY on the works of the law are under a curse...”
The question is, “what are you relying on when you come to God?” It definitely shouldn't be your works! The truth is, self-effort i.e. flesh is a cursed thing the same way the ground is cursed because it came from the ground. Cain failed because he was relying on his works! Stop putting your trust in your ability and self-effort!
The MESSAGE translation brings Galatians 3:10 out succinctly: “... that means that anyone who tries to live by his own effort, independent of God, is doomed to failure...”
Your dependence on your effort (your moral uprightness, how well you have served him, your certificate, your status – good as they may be) is what is keeping you from receiving what God has provided!
JESUS clearly says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is the way! He said it emphatically! You can't shunt your way to the Father through good works!
Hebrews 10:19-21 says, “So, friends, we can now—without hesitation—walk right up to God, into “the Holy Place.” JESUS HAS CLEARED THE WAY by THE BLOOD of HIS SACRIFICE, acting as our priest before God. The “curtain” into God's presence is his body.” Jesus has cleared The Way! We can now come boldly!
Faith doesn't have anything to do with properly dotted 'I's or properly crossed 'T's, it has everything to do with Jesus! We may not always have our 'I's dotted or our 'T's properly crossed but our faith will always receive its desired results when we come to the Father through THE WAY of blood that Jesus has cleared for us!
The blood of Jesus is working for me.
I cannot be denied in life because the blood is my pass into the presence of the Father and my victory over the devil!
I walk in victory, breakthrough and dominion in every area of my life. I take my eyes off my efforts and I put them upon Jesus and everything that He has done for me.
I declare that I have all round success because of the blood in the mighty name of Jesus!
