Hebrews 8:1 (NKJV)
1 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.
As believers we have a heavenly tabernacle (or shrine) where our High Priest – Jesus has entered for us with His own blood (Hebrews 9:12). The earthly tabernacle that the children of Israel had under the Old Covenant was only a type of an original that exists in heaven. Hebrews 8:1-2 says in the Message translation: “In essence, we have just such a high priest: authoritative right alongside God, conducting worship in the one true sanctuary built by God.” As our High Priest, Jesus is presently in our heavenly shrine conducting worship for us.
Jesus' ministry did not end after His death, burial, resurrection and eventual ascension to heaven. He is still alive and actively in ministry for us! The Priests of the old covenant either retired or died but Hebrews 7:24 says, “But Jesus' priesthood is permanent. He's there from now to eternity” (MSG). the reason His ministry is for eternity is because His priesthood is operating through power of an endless life (Hebrews 7:16).
Jesus' present day ministry is FOR US! Whatever He is doing right now in the heavenly sanctuary is for you and me. The bible says that, “For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God FOR US; (Hebrews 9:24). Hallelujah! He is there for Arome! That is why in this life you are only as effective as the kind of High Priest that you have! Jesus is our High Priest and we cannot fail because His Priesthood cannot fail!
Different people have their shrines, sanctuaries and sanctums that they have built with their hands and they go there in order to entreat the favours of their deities and make progress in life but I bring you good news, our sanctuary was built by our Father God Himself and we have a High Priest – Jesus. He has favoured and blessed us and we CANNOT fail because of the element that He uses to perform His duties for us – His blood!
Hebrews 7:16 says, “who (Jesus) has become a priest… on the basis of the power of an indestructible and endless life” (AMP). If the life of the flesh is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11), then it means that Jesus is our High Priest on the basis of an indestructible and endless blood. His blood is what He uses to perform His duties on our behalf. Nothing matches this blood and when our confidence is in this blood we cannot fail or lose.
Under the Old Covenant Israel never went to war without a sacrifice. Victory was only assured by spiritual forces working for them. On one of those occasions when the Philistines came up against Saul after Jonathan – his son, had killed one of the Philistine Governors, Saul saw that the army of the Philistines was obviously bigger than his and that he was losing the war! He knew he needed a sacrifice. Saul's only wrong was that he wasn't supposed to offer the sacrifice; Samuel was the one who was supposed to offer the sacrifice but he felt Samuel delayed in coming through so he offered the sacrifice himself.
1 Samuel 13:11-12 says, “Samuel said, “What on earth are you doing?” Saul answered, “When I saw I was losing my army from under me, and that you hadn't come when you said you would, and that the Philistines were poised at Micmash, I said, 'The Philistines are about to come down on me in Gilgal, and I haven't yet come before God asking for his help.' So I took things into my own hands, and sacrificed the burnt offering” (MSG).
It was right of Saul to turn to God for help but it had to be done in faith. Faith is coming to God God's way. The sacrifice had to be offered FOR him! It doesn't matter what is coming up against you right now even if it seems like you are losing life's battles and it looks like God hasn't come through like He said He would, I want to encourage you NEVER to take things into your own hands because with Jesus as your high priest, there is NO WAY YOU CAN LOSE! He has offered a sacrifice on your behalf.
Jesus is our unfailing High Priest. The bible calls Him a 'faithful High Priest' (Hebrews 2:17). He is never late!
As you go out today, keep your High Priest in focus because the main point or the central focus of our walk of faith is that we have a high priest who is always conducting worship on our behalf with His own blood so we always win.
I have a High Priest; His name is Jesus.
He is working for me right now so I can't fail!
He is orchestrating things in my favour.
My faith is in His blood and there is no way I can lose.
I am not moved by what I see or I hear, I depend completely on my High Priest and I boldly declare that I have the victory in Jesus name.
